Coach Feature (Remy Gan)
Coach Remy Gan’s journey in athletics began at the age of 14 when his secondary school teacher recognized his potential and invited him to participate in the National Schools Cross Country competition. Despite having no prior training, he participated and achieved a Top 10 finish, which spurred him on to start training in athletics.
As Coach Remy would say, his journey to becoming a coach was predestined. He had always wanted to be a teacher but the opportunity to coach came knocking one day. Progressively over the years at Singapore Sport School, he found his passion and remained a coach over the next 17 years.
During his stint as coach, he was privileged to have mentored several notable athletes including Shahrir Mohd Anuar and Jared Lim, bringing them to international meets such as the World Junior Championship, Asian Youth Games and Youth Olympic Games Trials.
Coach Remy strongly believes that every child deserves an opportunity to train and compete. He is passionate about guiding and nurturing young athletes, helping them to shine both as individuals and as athletes. His dedication to his athletes and his sport is truly inspiring, and his impact on the lives of those he has coached is immeasurable.
