While children laugh with joy and parents cheer loudly, Sunil Prasad Eyamo stands proudly by the pitch side, ensuring that every child is safe and having fun while learning hockey.
With over 20 years of hockey experience, the former Malaysian International player has been the Head Coach of ActiveSG Hockey Academy since 2018. This allows him to pass on his knowledge, skills and love of his beloved sport to the young. He always feels that the day-to-day process is the most important where his students can develop their interest, values, character and skills.
“My favourite moment as a head coach is to watch the kids and coaches enjoy and grow in the daily training,” he says. “When you see your young athletes improve from where they started to who they have become, I think that’s the best reward for me.”
“I believe in the process. Focus on the process, learn and improve along the way and the results will take care of itself,” he says with conviction. Sunil ensures that both his students and his eight-year-old son, who is also in the ActiveSG Hockey Academy, understand the importance of that in sport and in life.
His advice to parents, “we should encourage our children to focus on their effort, learning and improvement rather than the results. With that you will never lose, you either win or learn.”
