The Singapore Mountaineering Federation was formed in September 1993 to facilitate the promotion and administration of mountaineering related activities in Singapore.
Since then, the federation had actively organized and endorsed numerous activities like climbing competitions, mountaineering talks, expeditions, participation in overseas competitions to meet it’s objectives. Besides subsidy from the Singapore Sports Council, Singapore Mountaineering Federation funding comes from goodwill contributions of corporate sponsors, courses, certifications and royalty fees.
Its objectives are:
- To encourage and promote all forms of mountaineering in Singapore. In this context, “mountaineering” shall encompass sports and rock climbing, snow and ice-climbing, alpine climbing, tropical and alpine trekking, rapelling and abseiling and other related outdoor activities;
- To regulate and set standards and guidelines for all mountaineering activities in Singapore;
- To provide information, advice and assistance on matters pertaining to mountaineering activities to all members.
- To act as the National body for all mountaineering activities and represent Singapore in any recognised international mountaineering association or club.
