Written by ActiveSG Circle | Feb 5, 2024 1:00:00 AM

The North of Singapore is the new cool – especially with the newly-opened Bukit Canberra, a 12-hectare integrated hub that has been soft-launched to the public. If you haven’t checked out this part of town recently – we did! Read on to uncover the inside scoop!

Tucked away in the green heart of Sembawang, Bukit Canberra, which is a convenient 7-minute walk from Sembawang MRT, has burst onto the scene as a vibrant hub where wellness meets community. Think state-of-the-art sports facilities for your inner athlete, playful spaces for families on the go, and cozy corners to connect with neighbours – it’s a one-stop shop with something for everyone!

While the mixed-use development is opening in phases, there already are a range of amenities for visitors to enjoy. Not only does Bukit Canberra offer the largest ActiveSG gym in Singapore, but it also boasts a range of swimming complex facilities that include both indoor and outdoor pools.

Home to the Largest ActiveSG Gym in Singapore

Spread over a sprawling 1,500 square metres, Bukit Canberra’s ActiveSG Sport Centre opened to the public in end Oct 2023 – a commitment to the community’s well-being. This inclusive gym features a range of cool new facilities, including HUR machines which use air pressure in place of traditional weights. At this gym, it’s not only about lifting weights; it’s also about lifting spirits and redefining the gym experience – where everyone can find community as they grow stronger mentally and physically.

There are also two dance studios next to the gym where you can learn Pilates, Piloxing, Hatha Yoga, and Zumba – break a sweat without breaking your bank account!

Swimming Pools Galore

Whether you’re training to be Singapore’s next Olympic medallist in swimming, looking to hone your swimming strokes, or looking for a place for your toddlers to make a splash on a sweltering day – Bukit Canberra Swimming Complex promises a time of family fun!

With four swimming pools ready for use, Bukit Canberra Swimming Complex has both indoor and outdoor pools – so you can bask in the warm glow of sunshine on a hot day, and swim safely and comfortably indoors when it rains. These include a competition pool, a training pool, a fun pool, and a wading pool.

In addition, it’s also a new option for Northies to pick up swimming skills – you never know when this life-saving skill comes in handy. As a variety of swim schools and swimming instructors have already started promoting their classes there, taking swimming classes at this bustling community hub is an option worth considering!

Not only that – Bukit Canberra is the only pool in the North that offers ActiveSG Academies and Clubs’ (A&C) Water Polo and Flippa Ball programmes. These activities, designed to promote an active lifestyle in children and youth, are also a great platform to foster teamwork and social skills in young athletes today.

Furthermore, in support of active ageing and encouraging seniors to maintain an active lifestyle, all Singaporeans aged 65 and above continue to enjoy free access to all ActiveSG gyms and swimming pools, including the newly opened facilities at Bukit Canberra.

Sporting Action in the Indoor Sports Hall

If you’re not a fan of the pool, the Indoor Sports Hall provides both leisure and competitive players alike with a space to enjoy a variety of sports indoors.

With sufficient space for 4 table tennis tables, 11 badminton courts in which 2 are convertible for Pickleball, you can participate in your favourite sports and create lasting memories with your loved ones at any time – just be sure to book these facilities in advance with ActiveSG to chope your slots!

Community Hub Amenities

After enjoying some sporting action, refuel at Bukit Canberra’s hawker centre, a 44-stall establishment with local and international delicacies. Additionally, Bukit Canberra is also home to a community lawn and butterfly garden on its second floor. A pleasant place for a leisurely stroll in Sembawang's heartlands, this green space makes for an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Other facilities include the recently-opened Sembawang Polyclinic, which provides quality care to Canberra residents right at their doorstep, allowing residents to gain easy access to top-notch healthcare services, including acute and chronic disease treatment and women's healthcare.

So consider this our jio for you to come check this place out – you don’t have to live here to be a part of the Bukit Canberra sporting community!
