Meet Bibi, our lovely Sport Champion who retired recently in Feb 2022 and is now spending time with her grand nieces and nephews. She continues to age sportily and serve the residents with her warm personality and beautiful smile, continuing her journey as an Active Champion with Pasir Ris Sport Centre.
Bibi joined Singapore Sports Council as a cashier back in 30 March 2009. She started at Jalan Besar Stadium and Swimming Complex. Back then, there was no online booking system and the patrons must queue and buy tickets personally at the counter for entry into our sport facilities.

Gradually ActiveSG was launched as a national movement, and soon moved towards an online membership management system. At this time, Bibi was appointed as a Guest Officer and transferred to Pasir Ris Sport Centre. Stepping out of her comfort zone, she learnt about digital platforms and started to engage the patrons at a more personal level.
Bibi was very proud to see the growth of ActiveSG and the colleagues whom she worked with. She witnessed the progression of some Centre Managers, one of whom started as a part-timer. She is also very grateful to Mdm Zalia who introduced her to ActiveSG, a place where she came to form a lot of wonderful memories. Her most memorable memories were during major events such as SEA Games (SEAG), ASEAN Para Games (APG) and the National School Games, where she supported mostly in registration and logistics functional areas.

She was also attached to a call centre for two whole months during the APG period and got to work with one of the nicest leaders in Sport Singapore (SportSG) - Addy, whom many of us fondly remember.
During that period, even though the workload can be heavy, she really enjoyed the camaraderie forged amongst the team. That once-in-a-lifetime experience made her feel proud to be part of SportSG and ActiveSG, and she was truly inspired by the Singapore Spirit as everyone rallied together to support Team Singapore athletes and drive the national movement to Live Better Through Sport.

When asked to share a challenging moment, Bibi said the past two years were difficult with Covid-19. Despite that, Bibi was grateful that the senior management took care of everyone at level best. She witnessed the resilience of our people and the team working together closely to support one another during the few lockdown periods. She never felt that she had to handle demanding customers on her own, especially those who may question our Safe Management Measures policies, knowing that the full team was behind her.

Bibi shared that ActiveSG is the good place to work because there are so many opportunities to learn and grow as an individual. Her advice for younger Sport Champions?
"Make the best out of every situation. Do not be influenced by negativity. Always be willing to learn and be humble in serving others.”
Thank you Bibi, for sharing your story and lessons with our ActiveSG family.
