Grand New Champions Crowned at WTT Singapore Smash 2024

The 2024 Singapore Smash has come to a close and left its undeniable mark on the table tennis world, with brand new champions crowned and stories of triumph etched in the history books at the sold-out Infinity Arena.

Wang Chuqin emerged as the Men’s Singles champion, delivering a captivating performance under the Lion City's illuminating lights. Facing off against compatriot Liang Jingkun in the final, Wang showcased his exceptional skill and determination, securing victory with a 4-1 win. Despite Liang's recent victories over the new World no. 2, Wang’s unwavering resolve shot him to his first WTT Grand Smash Men’s Singles title, concluding a spectacular week where he also defended his Mixed Doubles crown alongside Sun Yingsha.

Over in the Women’s Singles, Wang Manyu completed her redemption with a resounding 4-1 victory over Wang Yidi. After narrowly missing out on the trophy in 2022, Wang returned with renewed determination, overcoming formidable opponents, including her 2022 Final opponent, Chen Meng. In front of a packed arena, Wang delivered a commanding performance, securing not only the coveted title but also ascending to No. 2 in the World Rankings, marking a significant milestone in her career. This victory added to her earlier success in the Women’s Doubles category with Chen Meng, solidifying her dominance in this year’s edition.

The 2024 Singapore Smash was not done with the crowning of new Champions, as Ma Long and Lin Gaoyuan made history by ending their WTT title drought, defeating top seeds Wang Chuqin and Fan Zhendong in a thrilling 3-2 showdown. Despite the top seeds' bid for a third consecutive Singapore Smash title, underdogs Ma Long and Lin Gaoyuan emerged victorious, showcasing their exceptional teamwork and skill.

And the excitement extended beyond the main events, with the WTT Youth Star Contender crowning its champions. Huang Youzheng claimed victory in the U19 Boys' Singles, while Qin Yuxuan emerged triumphant in the U19 Girls' Singles category, besting Singapore’s Ser Lin Qian who eliminated three Team China Opponents ahead of the final showdown. Not forgetting, Su Tsz Tung and Ryuusei Kawakami who secured victories in the U15 Girls' Singles and U15 Boys' Singles respectively, putting on show the immense talent of the next generation of table tennis stars.
