NSG 2024Taekwondo: Junior Div Taekwondo Poomsae Black Belt Poom 1

1,252 Senior and Junior division Taekwondo athletes from various schools across Singapore converged for the 3-day National School Games Taekwondo Poomsae Championships. The Junior Division Boys Black Belt Poom 1 category featured the highest number of participants, with 85 students.

As we witnessed all the Junior Division Boys in the Black Belt Poom 1 category perform their routines, which they had been training for months, their parents and coaches watched with pride. These young children, aged 11 and below, took the stand with confidence.  In the end, Nate Chew from Junyuan Primary School (JYPS) took home the highest overall score of 6.6. The second highest score went to Cayden Chan from St. Andrew’s Junior School (SAJS), with an overall score of 6.3, and Vynce Cheong from Ai Tong School (ATS) secured the third highest score with an overall score of 6.27.

 

Maha Bodhi School’s (MBS) Austen Yap executed a high kick in his routine, earning an impressive overall score of 5.83.

 

Cheering from the sidelines, parents showed their support for their young Taekwondo stars at ActiveSG Jurong East Sports Hall.

 

Taekwondo coaches shape not only their students' skills, but also character, as Taekwondo is a sport that fosters personal growth, discipline and integrity.

 

The Taekwondo coach instilled confidence in the young students as they prepared to perform their routines for the panel of judges.

 

Junyuan Primary School’s (JYPS) Nate Chew executed a perfect side kick, earning him the highest score this year!

 

Tan Gee Bin from Anderson Primary School (APS) represented his school for the second year in the Junior Division. Competing in the Poom 1 category this year, he achieved an overall score of 5.07.

 

7-year old Tan Gee Kai from APS followed in his brother’s footsteps, also representing his school for the second year in the Junior Division. Competing in the Poom 1 category this year, he scored 4.07.

 

Catholic High School’s (CHS) Lucas Yeo displayed a serious look on his face while on the mat, taking home a score of 5.30.

 

Tanjong Katong Primary School’s (TKPS) Max Chee shouted with ferocity at the end of his routine, earning a score of 6.23.

 

Nan Hua Primary School’s (NHPS) Dante Lee punctuated his performance with a resounding shout, earning a score of 5.30.

 

ATS’ Vynce Cheong took home the second highest score of the day.

 

In his routine, Sembawang Primary School’s (SPS) Nathanael Lim proved that size doesn't matter, embodying precision in every move and earning a score of 5.80.

 

Nate Chew from JYPS took home the gold medal with the highest overall score of 6.6.

 

Cayden Chan from SAJS took home the silver medal.
