At just 7 years old, Christian Ho set his sights on becoming Singapore’s first Formula 1 driver, starting his journey in go-karting like many professional racers. Now a teenager, Christian has made history as the first Singaporean to secure a seat on the FIA Formula 3 Championship.

His early days were filled with the thrill of karting, initially a playful hobby that blossomed into a profound passion, spurred on by his Formula One enthusiast parents and icons like Lewis Hamilton. Christian recalls feeling a natural connection to racing from the start: “When I first jumped into a kart, it felt like part of my body. If I didn't drive, I wouldn't feel complete.”

Beyond his racing aspirations, Christian also draws inspiration from NBA legends Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, admiring their relentless drive to win. While living in the United Kingdom and back home in Singapore, he also enjoys basketball and squash. This feature traces Christian’s remarkable journey from a young dreamer to a potential Formula 1 trailblazer, showcasing his dedication and the influences that have shaped his burgeoning career.

Christian moved to Italy at the age of 10, and soon became the first Asian driver to win a race in the Deutsche Kart Meisterschaft (DKM) German Karting Championship series in 2018. His success continued with a 2nd-place finish in the German Junior Championship in 2019, propelling him into the Formula 4 UAE Championships with MP Motorsport in 2022, marking his debut in single-seater racing at 16. Christian found the transition challenging yet exhilarating, noting, “It was interesting because so many things are different from karting... managing a clutch and risk were key learning points, although not everything I learned from my engineer was helpful.”

After finishing 13th overall, he shifted to the F4 Spanish championship in 2023 with Campos Racing. Adapting to the new demands, Christian modified his driving style, leading to significant improvements: he became the ‘vice champion’ with 5 wins and 7 pole positions across 21 races. His performance secured his step up to the Eurocup-3 series in 2024. Reflecting on his journey, Christian felt the season was immensely educational, despite his disappointment at not clinching the championship title. This journey from a young karting enthusiast to a formidable racer underscores his tenacity and adaptability in the pursuit of his Formula 1 dream.

Facing new challenges this year in the Tatuus F3 T-318, Christian kicked off with high hopes of clinching the championship. However, the first half of the season didn't go as planned. In the initial six races, mechanical issues forced him out of three, derailing his early momentum. But once these hurdles were cleared, Christian rebounded impressively, securing five podium finishes in the next six races. Now, with only two rounds left in October and November, he is still dissatisfied with standing second and remains fiercely determined to secure the top spot.

Advancing his career to Formula 3 is Christian's next target, which, he believes, depends significantly on getting the right team's backing. "The top teams want leaders," explains Christian. "They choose drivers who have excelled in the feeder series, offering a cost-effective choice for the team. Winning the Eurocup-3 title would likely lead to a recommendation, boosting your chances to lead a team, elevate their brand, and rack up wins, which is crucial. You don't want to be the third driver, where you're more of a financial asset than a competitive one. As we aren't billionaires, aligning with a team that supports and values you is essential."

At just 17, Christian Ho balances racing and studies while being away from home, a life that demands strict discipline, self-determination, and strong family support. Initially hesitant due to the sport's risks, Christian's mother has since become one of his biggest cheerleaders. With his father acting as his manager, he finds crucial moral support in both parents, particularly during times of disappointment and failure, embodying the steadfast backing only a family can provide.

Christian's ultimate ambition remains securing a seat in Formula One. To aspiring young racers in Singapore, he advises, "Always push yourself to improve, even if you're the best, because there's always someone better out there." Currently attending a boarding school in the UK for his A-levels, Christian misses his favorite local dish—Hainanese Chicken Rice—but remains focused on his immediate goal: winning the Eurocup-3 series. To compete against the high-caliber drivers in F3 and F2, he knows he must continually progress and make a significant impact in his anticipated debut in Formula 3 in 2025. Our fingers are crossed for this young Singapore star!

With 5 victories and 13 podium finishes under his belt, Christian Ho is currently ranked 2nd in the F4 Spanish Championship. Excitement is in the air for this Singaporean teenager as he anticipates his next big leap into FIA Formula 3, with his new team to be announced soon. “Securing my seat in FIA F3 next year is a thrilling step forward. The invaluable lessons from my time in F4 and Eurocup-3 are sure to bolster my performance in this upcoming challenge," Christian shares. Balancing academics with racing, all while being miles away from home, hasn’t been easy. But the move to FIA F3 marks a significant upshift, with faster and more skilled competitors on the horizon. “It’s definitely going to be tougher, but I’m geared up to learn and elevate my game to the next level. I’m ready to keep improving,” he asserts confidently. With all FIA F3 races broadcasted live before the F1 events, Christian is hopeful that the increased visibility will draw more support from fans and local sponsors back home, propelling him closer to his dream of becoming the first Singaporean F1 driver.
