Singapore’s athletes at the Hanoi SEA Games finished the day with another 7 gold, 7 silvers and 9 bronze medals across sports.
That brings the overall tally at the end of Day 6 to 37 Gold, 40 Silver and 49 Bronze medals.

Kayaker Lucas Teo wins first SEA Games gold as a father
Lucas Teo has won the men’s 1,000m gold at the SEA Games before, when he was crowned champion at home during the 2015 edition in Singapore.
But Wednesday’s win (18 May) was his first as a dad, a significant victory given the duties as father, coach and kayaker he now juggles. He clocked 3:51.501 to finish ahead of Indonesia and Thailand. This is canoe/kayak’s first gold and medal of the Hanoi Games.

Xiu Hong finally hits the gold target with win in pistol event
After coming second-best twice before (2015, 2017), Teh Xiu Hong finally tasted the sweet victory of gold. She scored 34 points to win the women’s individual 25m pistol event. Teammate Teo Shun Xie just missed a medal and finished fourth.

In the mixed team 10m air rifle event, Fernel Tan and Gai Tianrui were beaten 16-10 by Indonesia’s Resti Citra Dewi and Gustafian Fathur in the gold medal match and were awarded silver.

Fencers finish Games with best-ever showing
Singapore’s fencers wrapped up their SEA Games with another gold and silver on May 18, winning the men’s foil team event and taking silver in the women’s sabre team.
It adds to an overall tally of 6 gold, 4 silvers and 5 bronzes, making the Republic the best performing nation at the Games. Traditional fencing powerhouse Vietnam, with five golds, one silver and five bronzes, finished second.

More silverware for Singapore sprinters on athletics’ penultimate day
Shanti Pereira showed just why she is Singapore’s fastest woman, when she strode to silver in the women’s 100m, adding another medal in the sprints to her haul.
The 200m champion clocked a season’s best of 11.62s to finish just 0.02 behind gold medallist Kayla Richardson of the Philippines. Teammate Marc Brian Louis also won a bronze in the men’s 100m final, the first medal for Singapore since 2013.

The 4x400m relay team of Reuben Rainer Lee, Thiruban s/o Thana Rajan, Tan Zong Yang and Calvin Quek also picked up bronze, as did Goh Chui Ling in the women’s 10,000m. Athletics currently have one gold, three silvers and seven bronzes, with just the marathon and race walk events to go.

Swimmers win another seven medals, including two gold
Swim sprint queen Amanda Lim’s record of being undefeated at the SEA Games since 2009 finally came to an end on May 18, when she finished second in the women’s 50m freestyle. She clocked 25.39s for silver, finishing ahead of teammate Quah Ting Wen who took bronze in 25.49s.

Gan Ching Hwee continued her dominance in the freestyle events, this time picking up the 1,500m title for her fourth gold in Hanoi.

The women’s 4x100 medley relay team of Bonnie Yeo, Letitia Sim, Quah Ting Wen and Quah Jing Wen clocked 4:07.62 also winning gold. Quah Zheng Wen posted a new personal best of 1:48.20 for silver in the men’s 200m freestyle. And TeamSG's Breaststroke specialist Maximillian Ang picked up two bronzes, in the 50m of his pet stroke and the 200m individual medley.

First esports medal for Singapore women
Singapore has its first women’s esports medal at the SEA Games.
Chua “Candyburn” Yun Qin, Valerie “Aya” Seng, Xiang “Shashalala” Shasha, Jeslyn “Claria” Kweh and Wong “Vainie” Ming Yan were beaten 3-0 by the Philippines in the final of the women’s League of Legends: Wild Rift (Mobile) title, taking silver for Singapore’s first women’s esports medal in SEA Games history.

Table tennis delivers 1st pair of gold medals in Hanoi
TeamSG paddlers picked up their first gold medals of the Hanoi Games on Wednesday. The first one came through Koen Pang and Wong Xin Ru in the mixed doubles, when they beat teammates Clarence Chew and Zeng Jian 3-2 in an all-Singapore final.
Clarence and Ethan Poh added a second at the Hai Duong Gymnasium when they beat Richard Gonzales and John Russel Misal of the Philippines 3-1 for the men’s doubles title. The Filipinos had beaten Koen and Josh Chua in the semi-finals, leading to a joint bronze for Singapore.

Table tennis’ haul for the day consisted of another silver, courtesy of Zeng Jian and Zhou Jingyi in the women’s doubles. They were beaten 3-0 by Thailand’s Suthasini Sawettabut and Orawan Paranang.

Martial arts sports pick up bronzes
Taekwondo and judo both brought in bronzes on May 18.
Nichelle Tan was beaten 37-15 by Vietnam’s Tran Thi Anh Tuyet in the women’s under-53 kyorugi semi-finals, taking joint bronze.

In the sport of judo, Lee Song Lim and Vincent Tang scored 519 in the men’s kodokan goshin jutsu finals, winning joint bronze.
With 5 days of competition remaining, Team Singapore are still in 4th place (tbc) with 37 Gold, 40 Silver and 49 Bronze medals.
