Players are upbeat despite the loss to the reigning champions Vietnam.
The Vietnamese outscored the Singaporeans 18 to 8 in the first period and 17 to 7 in the second period. Vietnam’s La Van Lon topped the scoring for the Vietnamese with 14 points. Singapore’s Nur Aziman Bin Rostam, Teo Shi Han and Leo Chong Sing each notched 4 points.
Although the hosts beat our national beach handballers comfortably in both periods, Team Singapore beach handball captain Darius Tan Zhi Jie was happy with his team’s performance. “Today the team’s morale was good and everyone pushed very hard and did their best,” said Tan. Tan also took heart in the performance of his teammates and singled out veteran goalkeeper Yeu Czech Den for praise. “Today he (Yeu) made several good saves and did well overall,” he continued.
Of the experience playing against a top ranked Asian team, Tan said: “it was a good learning lesson and we learnt several new tricks from them. We can pick up their traits and skills and hope to apply them to the subsequent games.”
Our beach handballers will be back on the court tomorrow to face Thailand.
