Playing sports and exercising can be excellent ways to foster a sense of belonging for several reasons. Through Sport Singapore's TOGETHER WE PLAY campaign, we aim to encourage Singaporeans to embark on an active and fulfilling lifestyle - physically, mentally, and emotionally.  And this is why:

Shared Goals and Experiences

When we participate in sports teams or group exercise classes, we share common goals and experiences. Whether it's striving to win a game, achieving a personal best, or simply improving fitness levels, these shared objectives create a sense of unity and camaraderie among us.

Shared Identity

Being part of a sports team or exercise group provides us with a shared identity. Whether we wear the same uniform, participate in the same training routines, or celebrate victories together, this shared identity creates a sense of belonging and connection among us.

Social Support Networks

Engaging in sports and exercise often leads to the formation of social support networks. These networks provide us with a sense of belonging by offering companionship, encouragement, and understanding. Whether it's sharing tips on improving performance or offering a listening ear during challenging times, these connections can deepen the sense of belonging within our community.

Positive Reinforcement

Achieving success in sports or exercise activities can boost self-esteem and confidence. When we feel competent and valued within a group setting, we are more likely to develop a strong sense of belonging. Positive reinforcement from coaches, teammates, and fellow participants reinforces this sense of belonging and encourages continued participation.

Playing sports and exercising provide opportunities for us to connect, share experiences, and develop a sense of belonging. Whether it's through teamwork, shared identity, or social support networks, these activities promote inclusivity and camaraderie, fostering a sense of belonging that can positively impact our well-being.

So, let us come together. Together We Play

PLAY A SPORT

Let's embark on an exhilarating journey of discovery by embracing the world of sport! Learning a new sport isn't just about picking up new skills; it's about unlocking a world of excitement, adventure, and personal growth. Whether you're drawn to the grace of tennis, the teamwork of basketball, the adrenaline of rock climbing, or the tranquility of yoga, there's a sport waiting for you to explore.

By stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new, you'll not only boost your physical fitness but also expand your horizons, build confidence, and make lifelong memories. So, let's come together as a community, support each other's sporting endeavors, and unleash our full potential on the field, court, or track. Let's embrace the joy of learning a new sport!

BETTER HEALTH WITH ACTIVE HEALTH

Before diving headfirst into trying a new sport or increasing the intensity of your workouts, getting a health assessment is crucial because it provides a clear understanding of your current health status, identifying any underlying conditions or risk factors that could affect your ability to safely engage in (and enjoy) physical activity.

Sport Singapore's Active Health initiative focuses on promoting and enhancing the health and well-being of Singaporeans through physical activity and lifestyle changes. It aims to empower individuals to take charge of their health by providing accessible and personalised health assessments, consultations, and coaching.

Active Health Labs offer comprehensive health screenings that assess various aspects such as fitness levels, body composition, and cardiovascular health. Based on these assessments, personalised health plans are developed to encourage individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles through regular physical activity and improved nutrition.

So whether it is running or any other sport, knowing your fitness level is crucial! For more information on Active Health, click here.
